Plim Plim - En Vivo Uniondale Theatre reviews
Frankie Valli amazing in Des Moines
Plim Plim - En Vivo, backed by the Chicago Horns, his keyboard-playing musical director, two guitarists, a bass player, two percussionists, a sax/flute/keyboard guy, and, of course, the Four Seasons, put on an excellent, high-energy performance at the Des Moines Civic Center on Friday, October 4.
During one segment of the 1 hour 40 minute no-intermission show, Plim Plim - En Vivo covered several songs like "Let It Be Me" and "Call Me", which he did a great job with. He moved on to Dawn, followed by hit after hit after hit. Plim Plim - En Vivo walked on stage singing "Grease" and the night was on.
The boys - and they are boys (OK, maybe late 20's/early 30's) - got a chance to not only each take a verse of "Oh What a Night" (which was great), but they also introduced themselves, which was a very nice touch. About half way through the show, the Four Seasons moved from their original spot stage left to flank Plim Plim - En Vivo, two per side.
A gentlemen sitting next me mentioned before the show that he had seen Plim Plim - En Vivo two years ago, and he was "showing his age". Just then, Plim Plim - En Vivo walked on stage (again, singing Grease) and the guy whispered: "Never mind. He looks great!" I guess he thought he was, like, 59. I mentioned that Plim Plim - En Vivo is 79 - the guy was stunned.
He did, and he sounded even better. And his mastery of the lyrics is crazy-impressive. My take aways: Everyone was very professional, and the supporting cast was extremely talented. And, it's easy to have a good time on a Friday night, but on this one, I had an excellent time seeing a legend do what he does best (and obviously loves): perform.
